Sand Dunes Right Outside of ABQ

One of Albuquerque’s best kept little secrets, these unexpected sand dunes sit just west of the city. It’s one of those locations that makes you forget you’re only minutes from town, soft, wind-shaped dunes, wide-open skies, and warm desert tones create an almost otherworldly backdrop.

The dunes are especially beautiful around golden hour, when the low sun creates dramatic shadows across the sand. If you want something that feels adventurous, minimal, and completely different from the typical Albuquerque landscape, this hidden gem is hard to beat.
